Product Description
Far from the influence of the powers of Europe and Asia, the jungles, plains and mountains of the Americas saw the rise and fall of many mighty empires built upon blood and gold, from the bloodthirsty Aztecs and the bronze-armed Inca to the enigmatic Maya. This new companion volume for the award-winning Field of Glory table-top wargaming rules, complete with new troop types, historical overviews and supporting maps and specially commissioned artwork, gives players the chance to step into the role of one of the warchiefs of the Americas and command hordes of ferociously brave warriors in the pursuit of slaves, sacrifice and conquest.

5 out of 5 stars New World Army Options for FoG   March 7, 2010

A great collection of lists. While I understand the author's cut off date of 1500, this greatly disadvantages some of the North American native lists such as Plains Indians. The reason for the 1500 cut off for other geographic areas is the improvement in firearms. Obviously firearms weren't used or even known for several hundred years by many of these armies. I think that more lists should be introduced that allow natives the use of horses. Maybe another supplement could be offered?

If one thinks about it, the Zulu nation could also be used in these rules before the introduction of firearms as well. Which also brings up the point that little is known about central, western and south African nations prior to colonial contact. Might make for another list book in the future? Maybe the inclusion of native islanders from around the globe as well? Hawaiians were certainly popular in DBM. Again the 1500 AD date cutoff takes things from a Western perspective and hurts the ability to have included other tribes and horses.

Back to the lists at hand. The Central American lists are very interesting. Eastern Woodland Indians look very viable too. I think the Incans are done a bit of a disservice in that more heavy weapons and offensive spear should be available but this may be again due to the date cutoff of 1500.

Some of the most colorful armies are available here and should be fun to field. While fewer lists will perform well in an open list tournament format, there are enough armies that will do fine. Without horses, some of the armies will have a hard time catching their opponents when they evade. All in all, very fun armies and they are treated well in the main with the exception of the arbitrary date cutoff that all the lists have being my main gripe.
